Humboldt Love was installed in a yard between two buildings on a warm, spring evening. Wafts of freshly fried plantains, garlic sauces, snacks, and the smoke from a wood fire filled the air. A projected video oscillated between one-minute segments of neighborhood residents talking in front of a pile of plantains and one-minute segments of words spelled-out with plantains. In the first type residents spoke about their memories and dreams in the area, and they shared stories about their loved ones. Additionally one-minute footage portrayed the participants saying “Thank you” and of them cheering. The plantain words from second set of footage were selected from words chosen from the “interviews.”
